Microcrystalline Cellulose of Oil Bean Pod: Extraction, Physico-chemical, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), and Flow-ability Analysis

Oil bean pods (OBPs) are a biomass that indiscriminately dumped in eastern Nigeria, thus causes lot of pollution. In this study, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was isolated from oil using acid hydrolysis, and several characterizations were performed variety sophisticated techniques. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis has indicated the removal lignin hemicellulose MCC extracted pods. Scanning Electron Microscopy Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) revealed rough surface minor agglomeration MCC. Furthermore, slightly higher inorganic minerals than raw pod on basis SEM-EDX ash content. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) reveals specific area is 331.94 m2/g, which greater OBP, with 164.728 m2/g. Other characteristics like pore volume, average diameter or size demonstrate superior property OBP. This implies could serve as better adsorbent As result increased high percentage MCC, associated to chemical treatment can be used environmental remediation heavy metals. bulk density recorded at 0.447, above United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specification 0.32, tapped 0.532. flow ability powder determines its suitability direct compression binder. Thus, might reinforcing element for production green composites, binder, adsorbents, plastic polymers.
